Double billing Senate sub production in 2010
Washington - The production of the Navy submarines could be in 2010 - two years sooner than expected - a bill approved this week by the Senate Armed Services Committee.
The bill that goes to the full Senate in June, marks the boldest of the Congress move at the commissioning of submarine production, after years of delay.
Efforts to boost employment in promises of Northrop Grumman Newport News and General Dynamics Electric Boat, the two contractors working on nuclear submarines.
Despite a decline in the submarine fleet, the Navy has repeatedly postponed plans to double production, saying more time is needed to ensure the costs for submarines.
